RESUMO

This paper uses green innovation and environmental pollution as the mediating variables to construct a mediating effect model to investigate whether China's carbon emission trading policy can improve regional eco-efficiency by reducing regional environmental pollution and stimulating green innovation. This study is based on panel data from 30 provinces and municipalities directly under China's central government and autonomous regions from 2003 to 2019. The eco-efficiency of these provinces is measured using the super-efficiency DEA model and the difference-in-difference method (DID). The results show that (1) China's emission trading policy significantly improves regional ecological efficiency and the per capita GDP. The improvement can effectively improve regional ecological efficiency. (2) The mediating effect of green innovation and environmental pollution is significant. That is, China's carbon emission trading policy further improves regional ecological efficiency by stimulating more green innovation and reducing the synergy brought by environmental pollution. (3) There are differences in the feedback of this impact mechanism between different regions: It shows the characteristics of the western region being more significant than the eastern region. The central region has no significant effect. The research conclusion can provide a policy reference for the subsequent unified promotion of the construction of a carbon emission trading market nationwide and a theoretical basis for helping to achieve the "dual carbon" goal.

RESUMO

In recent years, the tourism activities take experienced a steady growth in demand, yet it causes ecological damages, such as waste production and carbon dioxide emissions. This paper provides a theoretical framework for testing the interactions among sustainable development and economic growth in the tourism context and demonstrates that sustainability depends on both environmental impacts and some relationships among different factors. In particular, considering some of the key indicators proposed by Agenda 2030 and integrated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the authors focused on the direct influence of tourism to Gross Domestic Product (TGDP), Environmental Performance Indicator (EPI) score, and Carbon Footprint (CF) as indicators that were used together with GDP and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to test five hypotheses and analyze their interactions for a sample country. The results reveal the statistical significance among these indicators in the light of Sustainable Development Goals n. 8, n. 12, and n. 13. Finally, Municipal Solid Waste, the first visible human effect due to tourism, presents a strong interaction with Carbon Footprint.

RESUMO

Green technology innovation is an effective means to achieve high-quality economic development. The impact and mechanism of digital financial inclusion on regional green technology innovation are tested using a threshold regression model and the panel fixed effect model, based on China's provincial Panel data (provincial Panel data are regional annual report data) from 2011 to 2020. According to the study, there is a direct link between local green technology innovation and digital financial inclusion. This paper highlights the differences in their influence by location and usage depth and underscores the necessity of government engagement to improve these characteristics. Information infrastructure needs to be strengthened, especially in areas with gaps. Greater investment in research and development (R&D) indirectly supports regional green technology innovation since it is impacted by digital financial inclusion. Interestingly, a threshold effect becomes most noticeable when digital financial inclusion rises above a particular threshold. Promoting utilizing digital financial inclusion to lessen regional differences in green technology innovation is important.

RESUMO

After reform and opening-up, rapid industrialization and urbanization led to environmental degradation in China, including excessive energy consumption, soil contamination, and water pollution. Toward sustainable development, the Chinese government has promoted the introduction of clean energy sources such as geothermal and hydroelectric power generation, which have reduced the environmental burden. However, the impact of this energy shift on environmental improvement and economic growth is unclear. This study empirically analyzes the impact of green energy deployment and economic growth on CO2 emissions in China. The analysis of time series data from 1980 to 2020 shows that in the long run, a 1% increase in renewable energy significantly reduces CO2 emissions by 0.87%, and a 1% increase in GDP significantly increases CO2 emissions by 0.26%. In contrast, in the short run, the negative effect of renewable energy on CO2 emissions and the positive effect of GDP on it are not significant. This result was confirmed after the robustness checks. Based on the results obtained, several policy recommendations are made.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply influenced the tourism and hospitality industry, and it has also reshaped people's travel preferences and related behaviors. As a result, how prospective travelers perceive travel constraints and their effects on future travel behaviors may have changed to some extent. Besides, such perception arguably varies across gender. Therefore, this research examines the interplay between travel constraints, gender, and travel intentions for facilitating robust tourism recovery by revisiting the Leisure Constraints Model (LCM) from a gender perspective. Data were collected through a survey from 357 Malaysian prospective travelers. By conducting path analysis and multigroup analysis (MGA), it is found that structural and interpersonal constraints impose indirect effects on travel intentions (mediated by intrapersonal constraints), and gender moderating the effect of structural cost on intrapersonal constraints and effect of intrapersonal constraints on travel intentions. Based on these findings, this research provides theoretical and practical implications into how to adjust their marketing strategies and travel products during the era of "new normal" for tourism policy makers, destination marketers, and related businesses.

RESUMO

This paper aims to test whether agricultural insurance significantly impacts farmers' income increase or not. We have used the ordinary least squares method (OLS), panel fixed effects, and system generalized moment estimation (GMM) for the test. The results show that the increase in agricultural insurance density and the increase in agricultural insurance per capita compensation positively impact farmers' income growth significantly. Agricultural insurance density and per capita compensation are the indicators used in this article to measure agricultural insurance development. Therefore, it can be considered that the development of agricultural insurance in Guangdong Province (China) can effectively increase the income level of farmers. Based on the results of theoretical and empirical analysis, combined with the current situation of agricultural insurance development in Guangdong Province, this paper finally puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions. It provides some ideas for giving full play to the role of agricultural insurance in promoting farmers' income from the perspectives of pertinent system design, subsidy methods, insurance innovation, service level, and publicity.

RESUMO

This study examined the fear of COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on consumer behavioural intention to purchase green products. The data was collected from consumers of Malaysia in hypermarkets. A total of 491 respondents were analyzed using the partial least square technique. The results indicated that the fear of the COVID-19 epidemic has a significant impact on health concerns, social media information, intolerance of uncertainty, and personal relevance, which in turn affect consumers' behavioural intention to purchase green products. With a serial mediating effect the results identified that fear of COVID-19 epidemic is associated with behavioural intention to purchase the green product. The findings of this study are crucial for understanding the swings in the green product purchase behaviour due to the ongoing uncertainty of COVID-19 crisis.

RESUMO

There is deep-rooted opposition to strict environmental regulations, stating that they will lead to job losses and production contraction. Identifying environmental policies compatible with economic growth and pollution reduction is necessary to promote sustainable development. Using an R&D-based model with an endogenous labor supply, we examine the positive effect of an environmental policy on economic growth and welfare, where the policy reduces pollution emissions. The results show a substitution effect, where a reduction in pollution permit levels causes households to substitute labor for leisure and move their labor from production to R&D activities. This policy increased consumption. Thus, reducing pollution permit levels increases the growth rate and welfare via the substitution effect. This methodology can be applied to facilitate the complete analysis of environmental policy effects in an R&D-based growth model. Additionally, applying this analytical approach to other endogenous growth models and simulation analyzes can reveal the mechanisms of various environmental policy effects. In summary, this method facilitates the following steps:•Analysis of growth and welfare effects of environmental policies.•Understanding the process of deriving these effects in a basic R&D-based growth model.•A framework that can be applied to the simulation analysis of these effects was provided.

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate how young Chinese consumers make purchase intentions towards Western brands under the influence of two conflicting values and CSR, which is insufficiently discussed in the current literature. Both value-attitude-behavior (VAB) and consumer cultural theories are adopted to construct the research framework. Data was collected from undergraduate students studying at a public university located in Guangzhou via WeChat and Tencent QQ. A total of 314 usable responses were analyzed by the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The empirical findings indicated that cosmopolitanism has a significantly positive effect on brand attitudes and purchase intentions; ethnocentrism has a significantly negative effect on purchase intentions, but no significant impact on brand attitudes; and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives positively affect brand attitudes rather than purchase intentions. The results also revealed that brand attitudes mediate the relationship between cosmopolitanism/CSR and purchase intentions, but it does not have a mediating effect on the relationship between ethnocentrism and purchase intentions. These findings provide essential insights to the body of knowledge of international marketing in emerging markets and shed light on understanding how young Chinese consumers make purchase decisions towards Western brands. The results are useful for Western brands to effectively adjust their marketing strategies and advertising/promoting campaigns for business development purposes in the Chinese market.
